The Association of Evangelical in Burundi (AEB-Burundi) held a press conference in Bujumbura on Friday, July 3, 2026, during which it expressed its appreciation to the Government of Burundi for several notable achievements while presenting recommendations on issues it considers essential to the country’s continued development. Speaking on Behalf of AEB-Burundi, Pastor Edmond Gakiza praised efforts to strengthen security, reform the justice sector under His Excellency President Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE. He also welcomed support for agriculture, livestock, and religious freedom, saying these are vital for peace and development. Pastor Gakiza raised concern over the spread of alcoholic beverages harmful to public health. Citing similar concerns from the Parliament and Catholic Bishops of Burundi, he urged the Government to ban their production while continuing to support BRARUDI. He said these drinks are fueling social problems, especially in families, and undermining productivity and community development. AEB-BURUNDI praised Burundians for responding to the call to boost agricultural production, but urged the Government to increase fertilizer availability to meet demands and improve yields. The organization also called for opening the petroleum sector to more investors to improve fuel supply. In addition, Pastor Gakiza said lower-level public employees need better salaries to cope with the rising cost of living and remain motivated. In closing, AEB-BURUNDI thanked the Government and His Excellency President Evarist NDAYISHIMIYE for progress toward an Emerging Burundi by 2040 and Developed Burundi by 2060. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, holistic development, and the well-being of all Burundians.
